Altogether there were 160 people at the conference.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA
This country has high mountains and many islands. People speak many different languages but most understand the common language of Tok Pisin. (Melanesian Pidgin) The largest group at the conference came from this country . See if you can find the main cities that they came from: Port Moresby & Lae. There were also some from the town of Kavieng. They would say “Mi amamas long lukim yu” if they wanted to say “I am happy to see you.”
FIJI
This country was the host country for the conference. The women arrived in Nadi and went by bus to the other side of the island to the conference. If you wanted to say Hello in this country you would say “BULA!”
AUSTRALIA
Two people and a number of puppets came from this country and looked after Smukey and Arpee. They flew with Arpee and Smukey from Sydney and took some of the seminars. The capital city is Canberra.
VANUATU
The people from this country also speak French as well as Pidgin English, their local language and English. . Its capital city is Port Vila.
SOLOMON ISLANDS
The ladies came from two groups in this country. They can understand Pidgin English too. Its capital city is Honiara. They had the second largest group at the conference.
KIRIBATI
One lady came from this country of many tiny atolls that may be thousands of kilometres apart.
TUVALU
The lady from this island did not get there as the boat timetable was changed at the last minute and it would take 3 days to get there by boat. However one lady from this country was working at the college where the conference was held and came to the seminars.
USA
The world president of the WCTU comes from this country and came to the conference to take some of the seminars.
